Recognized by many as among the most consequential Consuls General Jamaica has posted in the Western Hemisphere, and described by those who work alongside him by a simpler measure: the Consul General who shows up.

Roderick Oliver Mair has served as Consul General of Jamaica, Miami since October 3, 2018, overseeing the diplomatic and consular mission across 13 Southern states. An MBA-credentialed executive and recipient of an honorary Doctor of Ministry (Honoris Causa) from the University of Fort Lauderdale (2026), he brings 25 years of private-sector leadership across aviation, agribusiness, and the performing arts to a diplomatic post defined by visibility, engagement, and results.

At the core of his tenure is a conviction that the Consul General must be present, attending fundraisers and galas, town halls, investment expos, and community stage shows. He produces Link Up Live, a weekly community radio show connecting thousands across 13 states. He inaugurated the Jamaica Citizenship Welcome Ceremony 'Back to My Roots' (2020), now a quarterly cornerstone event, and has fast-tracked Jamaican citizenship for descendants to represent Jamaica internationally in soccer, basketball, and athletics.

His government engagement is equally formidable. He maintains relationships across all levels of U.S. political representation with keen ties to 30+ elected officials of Jamaican descent, holds key mayoral relationships across major Southern cities, and received the Keys to Broward County in 2019. He facilitated the MOU between the University of the West Indies and the University of Alabama for cultural exchange and sickle cell research, partnered with JAMPRO on Investment in Jamaica Road Shows generating significant investment for the island, and is a featured speaker at the Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference, FITCE, and major finance, real estate, and agricultural summits across the United States.

When Hurricane Melissa struck in October 2025, he coordinated over $40M USD in relief support with partners including Food for the Poor, World Central Kitchen, and the Global Empowerment Mission, mobilizing 4,000+ GEM volunteers and facilitating the MOU between GEM and ODPEM to establish a permanent GEM office in Jamaica. He produced the Stay Strong Jamaica Concert at the Hard Rock Hotel raising $400,000 USD and co-facilitated the One Love Jamaica Gospel Concert raising $150,000 USD. During COVID-19, he provided care and support for an estimated 2,500 Jamaican nationals, coordinated donations of laptops and medical supplies to students, and was recognized by the City of Lauderhill for outstanding pandemic leadership.

The Southern USA region under his leadership has been identified as the largest contributor to the Ministry of Health's Adopt-A-Clinic initiative, with 17 clinics adopted at JMD $3M per clinic, 6 funded directly from proceeds of the Jamaica Hi-5 Annual Reggae Run/Walk, the community wellness event he founded, now in its 7th year and voted Best Event in South Florida two consecutive years. Culturally, he created the Jamaica Brew Literary and Film Festival (est. 2023), the annual Garvey and Reggae Symposium, and the Consul General Distinguished Lecture Series and Town Hall hosted at the Island Space Caribbean Museum. He has facilitated cultural exchanges through NDTC and ASHE, and partnered with the Louise Bennett Coverley Heritage Council to support scholarships at the Edna Manley College and UWI Reggae Studies.

A pioneering early adopter of AI-powered customer service support within Jamaica's diplomatic network, he modernized constituent communication across 13 states and personally facilitated AI literacy training for consulate staff and the broader diaspora community. His record has been recognized with 20+ awards including the IRAWMA Lifetime Achievement Award (2025), the Marcus Garvey Leadership Award at the Captains of Industry Summit (2025), the Cultural Man of the Decade from the Louise Bennett Coverley Heritage Council (2025), Man of the Year from Caribbean News Weekly (2022), and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
