Guidelines for Donating Educational Materials through the National Education Trust (NET)

Please review the following requirements before preparing or shipping any donation items.

1. Pre-Shipment Requirements

  • Donors must contact NET prior to shipping to determine item suitability and customs requirements.
  • Information on computers must be submitted in advance for suitability approval.
  • A minimum of one (1) week notice is required before shipping.
  • Submit early to avoid port delays and demurrage charges.
  • All information should be emailed to info@net.org.jm

2. Documentation & Communication

  • Send a Letter of Offer to the beneficiary school before shipping.
  • Schools must send NET an acknowledgment letter on official letterhead.
  • Goods must be consigned to: National Education Trust for [School Name].
  • Do not combine educational items with medical supplies or personal items.

3. Customs & Duties

  • A customs broker is required for goods valued over US$5,000.
  • When consigned to NET, GCT, SCT, Stamp Duty, and Import Duties are waived.
  • Donors must pay: 50% Customs Administrative Fee (CAF) + Environmental Levy.
  • Use pallets, crates, drums, or containers to avoid high CAF charges.

4. Shipping & Arrival

  • Request the shipper to email the Arrival Notice to info@net.org.jm.
  • NET will prepare the necessary paperwork upon receiving the notice.
  • Non-compliance may result in delays or full duties becoming payable.

5. Clearance Documentation

  • Bill of Lading or Air Waybill
  • Invoice (for new goods)
  • List of goods and value (for pre-owned items)
  • Completed Electronic Donation Form (Excel), with currency stated

6. Goods Accompanying Passengers

  • Approvals must be obtained before arrival in Jamaica.
  • Letters must be presented to Customs by the traveler or school representative.
  • Provide itinerary ahead of arrival.
  • Approval process requires up to 10 working days.

7. Final Approval & Monitoring

  • Once documents are verified, NET issues a clearance letter to the school or representative.
  • NET reserves the right to audit schools to ensure donated items are in use.
